Started Handheld after watching his mom's bakery earn five stars in person and almost none online.
Handheld is a small San Diego team with one job: help good businesses turn happy customers into honest reviews—without the awkwardness.
Handheld started behind the counter of a small coffee shop in San Diego. The owner knew her regulars were happy—you could see it in the tips and the names on the cups—but her Google reviews had barely moved in a year. Asking felt pushy. Reminders got forgotten.
So we made a card that does the asking without the awkwardness. One tap, one review page, one less thing for a busy owner to think about. We tested it on that first counter in 2026. Forty reviews in six weeks later, we knew it was something.
Today, more than 2,400 businesses use Handheld. We're still a small team in San Diego, still shipping every order from our studio, and still convinced that the best marketing is a genuinely great visit—made a little easier to talk about.
They sound simple. They're the reason the cards work.
We don't write reviews, script them, or reward them. We just remove the friction from a choice customers already want to make.
Every decision starts with a real business: busy hands, sticky surfaces, and about four seconds of attention. If it doesn't survive that, it doesn't ship.
You'll talk to the people who pack your order. Orders ship from our studio, and questions get answered by a human—usually the same one.
Six people, one studio, and a shared suspicion of anything that makes a business feel less human.
